Travel and Transfer from Athens Airport (ATH), Greece
The large new Athens International Airport "Eleftherios Venizelos" was opened in March 2001. It lies 17 miles out east, towards the port of Rafina, accessible via Attiki Odos, a 6 lane toll motorway (the City Ring Road).
Taxi
Ranks are outside Arrivals level, fares to city are rated per km, per luggage item, plus Attiki Odos toll.
Bus
Six public bus routes connect the airport with the Athens area and Piraeus, details from airport website . Regional buses run to Rafina, Markopoulo, Lavrio, Kalyvia, Keratea. If you are heading straight for the Greek islands, consider travelling to Rafina port instead of making the trek to Piraeus port. The quickest way to travel to Piraeus is with the X96 bus (see photo - right), this takes less than half an hour.
Train
Athens airport is accessible via Metro Line 3 to Syntagma & Monastiraki (35 mins.), and via the Suburban Rail to Larissis Central Railway Station.
