Bardonecchia ski resort lies in the Piedmont region, on the Italian side of the Frejus Tunnel which separates France and Italy. This beautiful scenic resort consists of 6 villages: Fregiusia, Les Arnaus, Melezet, Millaures, Rochemolles and Pian del Sole. The 140 km of well groomed pistes are made up of 4 skiing areas: Campo Smith Colomion, Les Arnauds, Mélezet Valle Stretta and Fregiusia Jafferau. Bardonecchia's higher ski area, Jafferau, is best for intermediates or advanced, Campo Smith is lower and is suitable for learners, but can be very busy at weekends. Many of the slopes are quite challenging reds or blues, experts will find 6 black runs and plenty of off piste skiing. The Milky Way and Trois Vallées ski areas are also easily accessible by car from Bardonecchia. The town itself is a sunny market town with fantastic views, it has its own train station and is close to the beautiful city of Turin.
Accommodation in BardonecchiaBardonecchia is one of Italy's oldest ski resorts, built around a residential town. Accommodation options range from hotels and pensions to chalets or apartments. Hotel la Betulla near main slopes at Campo Smith is basic, but has good food and friendly service; family run Hotel Bianca is also good value; Hotel Tabor is popular and offers good a la carte food; Hotel Europa is clean, warm and spacious close to the town centre.Bars, restaurants and après ski in BardonecchiaApres ski nightlife is a lot quieter than at other resorts. There are some good restaurants and bars as well as 3 disco's but the only time Bardonecchia really can get hectic is during the weekend when hordes of local Italians arrive for a weekend of skiing. The resort is popular with British skiers, as prices are generally very reasonable for everything. Many of the hotels, bars and restaurants speak some English as well. The Venezia and The Italian do huge pizzas, Ristorante Bar Biovey offers freshly cooked local dishes, Cafe Medail is friendly and also does great pizzas. For a night out try the Al Pik Bo wine bar, or the Playtime Disco. Only 30 minutes away is the ski resort of Sauze d'Oulx, offering a wide range of nightlife.Activities in BardonecchiaThe resort offers a natural ice skating rink, a sauna, a cinema, ice hockey, horse riding, hiking, and a games hall. Snowboarders should find just the right mix of conditions between pistes, at the top of Jafferau after fresh snowfalls. Sightseers can enjoy the beautiful mountain scenery in the Valle Stretta towards Lago Verde and at Rochemolles or visit the sights of Turin. |
