Transfers and Transport from Bombay (Mumbai) Airport (BOM), India
Officially named Chhatrapati Shivaji International Airport, this is the busy gateway to South India and lies about 20 miles north of Mumbai city. The domestic and international terminals are a few miles apart, Terminal 2 is located at Sahar and deals with international flights. Mumbai is well served by public transport, but traffic is very congested.
Taxi
Pre-paid taxis (less hassle), metered taxis and auto rickshaws serve the airport, be ready to haggle for the latter.
Bus
Regular shuttle buses connect the domestic and international terminals. Cheap local buses run to the city and to Pune, coaches to other destinations can be booked from Arrivals area office. Minibuses offer free shuttle services to the domestic terminal and Juhu hotels.
Train
From Sahar International Terminal take a taxi or rickshaw to nearby Andheri railway station, trains run from here to Churchgate in central Mumbai. From Santa Cruz Domestic Terminal go to Vile Parle railway station for trains into Mumbai. Other possiblities into Mumbai are from Dadar station or CST Terminus station (the old Victoria Terminus). It is usually quicker to take a train downtown than to go by public bus, trains take about 45 mins. Within Mumbai, suburban trains are a cheap way to get to popular destinations such as Chowpatty Beach, Sanjay Gandhi National Park, Victoria Gardens and others, but avoid rush hour and women are advised to use the ladies-only carriage. Frequent train services connect Mumbai to Agra, Ahmedabad, Aurangabad, Bangalore , Kolkata , Chennai , Delhi , Kochi , Pune and Varanasi.
