Qantas fly to Wellington from the UK via Melbourne , it's a short transfer of 2 hours in Melbourne and is the quickest route to this part of North Island New Zealand. Qantas also have routes via Sydney but these take a couple of hours longer, this route is a good choice if a free stopover in Sydney is required. Air New Zealand flights are via Auckland and this is the only choice if flying via Los Angeles in the US. Most airfares to Wellington are over £1000 but we do find cheap flights in spring and in the UK wintertime for around £800 most years. For the last 10 years the best prices found on LowFareFlights were in late June and early July for travel in the New Zealand summer. London Heathrow airport consistently offers most choice of flights and lowest fares to New Zealands capital.

Wellington lies in a beautiful natural harbour at the southern tip of North Island. Its airport is just 5 miles southeast and is well connected by road, buses and taxis. The city lies 400 miles south of Auckland, 285 miles from Rotorua and 120 miles from Wanganui.

Getting to and from Wellington Airport (WLG), New Zealand
Wellington Airport New Rock TerminalWellington International Airport is located at Rongotai, 5 miles southeast of the city. There is a good Visitor Information Centre in the main terminal. Quickest road access to the airport is via the Mount Victoria tunnel.
Taxi Taxis and shared-ride shuttles wait directly outside the main terminal.
Bus The orange Stagecoach Flyer express bus provides public transport between the airport, the city centre and Hutt Valley every 30 mins. Door to door shuttles are also available from the airport. Wellington has an extensive network of bus routes.
Train No rail connection to this airport. The nearest and main railway station is in Wellington at Waterloo Quay. Commuter train services to Johnsonville, the Hutt Valley, Porirua, Paraparaumu, and trains to Auckland, Hamilton, Masterton, Palmerston North depart from this station.
