bmibaby - Convenient budget flights from regional British cities

Bmibaby was lanched in early 2002 as the 'tiny fares' wing of British Midland (bmi). The airline moved into low cost operations from their base at Nottingham East Midlands airport to popular European holiday and business destinations. In June 2005, bmibaby also began to offer cheap seats on BMI (British Midland) scheduled or charter flights.
Today it flies from 4 UK airports: East Midlands, Birmingham, Manchester and Cardiff. Their international flights go to 23 major airports in Europe. In 2005, bmibaby handled around 3 million passsengers.

bmibaby Routes

bmibaby offers international flights from Birmingham, Cardiff, East Midlands and Manchester plus some UK regional routes. There are now some 70 routes to choose from, flying to 9 countries: Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Poland, Portugal, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Holland.
In addition, bmibaby domestic routes fly from: Aberdeen, Belfast Intl, Birmingham, Cardiff, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow Intl, Jersey, Manchester, Newquay.

    Bmibaby's fares are very competitive and are well worth checking out, many seats are offered at bargain prices. Also look out for their £10 seat sales. They conveniently fly from regional British cities to well-located major European airports which are easy to travel to and from.
    Another advantage is that seats are allocated at check in, so no hurrying or pushing for the best seats during boarding. Unusual for a budget airline, passengers can also reserve particular seats or those with extra legroom online, making flights more attractive for families or groups. There is a generous hand baggage allowance of 10 kg.
    Bmibaby is also one of the World Travel Awards 2006 top nominees in the section 'World's Leading Low-Cost Airline Internet Site'.
     

    Other Useful Information

    Booking bmibaby is a ticketless airline. A booking reference number is supplied and this is needed for travel. Online booking is cheaper, with £10 discount for a return flight, or use bmibaby call centre. You're allowed to book up to 15 seats in one transaction for group bookings. Infants under 2 travel for £10 on an adult's lap.
    Credit card payment fee costs 3% (minimum £4.99) of the total; debit card payment costs 2% (minimum £1.99) of the total; only payment by Visa Electron card is free.
    N.B: Local paid on departure taxes: Knock Ireland - EUR10; Newquay - £5.
    Seats Seats are allocated at check-in, making for easy boarding. Particular seats can be reserved online for £6 per person single, extra legroom seats for £10 (conditions apply). Bmibaby seat pitch (legroom) is not roomy at 29-31 inches, choose an aisle seat for longer flights.
    Food Inflight meals are not included in the fare, snacks and drinks can be purchased on board or take your own.
    Baggage Bmibaby now charge extra for each checked-in item*. Check-in baggage allowance is 2 pieces to a total of 20kg maximum. (maximum weight of any single item is 32kg). Hand luggage allowed is 1 piece 55x40x20cm. up to 10 kg. Baggage allowance for infants under 2 years is 5 kg. Excess baggage costs £6 per kilo. Large sports equipment up to 20 kg costs £15.00 per item, collapsible wheelchairs free.

    Check-In Desks open 2 hours and close 30 minutes before the scheduled departure time. Online check-in is available up to 24 hours before departure, for those with hand luggage only. Bmibaby does not operate any connecting flights, you need to check-in and collect your luggage for each part of a journey.
    Flight Changes No refunds for cancellations or missed flights, but unused tickets can reclaim a refund of Air Passenger Duty, minus an administration fee of £20 per passenger. Changing to a different flight costs £20 per person plus any fare increase if done online, £25 if done via call centre. Name changes can be made at bmibaby call centre only (0871 224 0224) and cost £35 per name per booking, plus any fare increase.
    Aircraft Bmibaby uses a total fleet of 19 aircraft: 15 Boeing 737-300 (148 seats) and 4 Boeing 737-500 (131 seats). Average age of fleet is about 12 years. Bmibaby aircraft carry novel names such as Rock a bye baby, Baby of the north, Baby blue skies, Rainbow baby, Butterfly baby, Little Costa baby, Pudsey baby and Foxy baby.
