bmibaby - Convenient budget flights from regional British cities

Bmibaby was launched in early 2002 as the 'tiny fares' wing of BMI British Midland (now flybmi). The airline moved into low cost flights from their base at East Midlands airport to popular European holiday and business destinations. International flights from the UK now go to nearly 30 major airports in Europe.
In June 2005 bmibaby also began to offer cheap seats on flybmi scheduled or charter flights.

bmibaby Routes

Bmibaby offers international routes from Birmingham, East Midlands plus some UK regional routes, to 9 countries: Ireland, France, Italy, Spain, Portugal, Poland, Czech Republic, Switzerland, Holland. Their busiest international destinations are Amsterdam, Malaga, Palma and Alicante.
Former bmibaby flights from Cardiff and Manchester discontinued in October 2011.
Domestic flights depart from Aberdeen, Belfast Intl, Birmingham, East Midlands, Edinburgh, Glasgow Intl, Jersey, Newquay.

    Bmibaby's fares are competitive and well worth checking out, many seats are offered at bargain prices. Also look out for their £10 seat sales. They conveniently fly from regional British cities to well-located major European airports which are easy to travel to and from.There is a generous hand baggage allowance of 10 kg.
    Another advantage is that seats are allocated at check in, so no hurrying for the best seats during boarding. Unusual for a budget airline, passengers can also reserve particular seats or those with extra legroom online, making flights more attractive for families or groups.     Booking tips Remember to submit your now legally required passport details before travelling. Credit card payment fee per passenger per single flight costs £4.50 (£6 minimum charge), debit card payment £3 (£4 minimum charge). Only payment by Visa Electron card is free.
    Use your booking reference number emailed to you for check-in. Online booking is the most advantageous. You can book up to 15 seats in one go for group bookings. Infants under 2 travel for £25 on an adult's lap.

    Seats Seats are allocated at check-in for easy boarding. Specific seats can be reserved online for £4.50 each, extra legroom seats for £8.50 each per single flight (conditions apply). Bmibaby seat pitch (legroom) is not roomy at 28-30 inches, choose an aisle seat for longer flights.
    Food Inflight meals are not included but snacks and drinks can be purchased on board.
    Baggage allowance and charges Bmibaby charge extra for each checked-in item, from £14*. Standard check-in baggage allowance is 22kg per person, weight allowance can be pooled. Hand luggage allowed is 1 piece (55x40x20cm) up to 10 kg. Baggage allowance for infants under 2 is 5 kg, prams/buggies carried free for under 5's. Excess baggage costs £9/kg prepaid online but £12/kg at the airport. Sports equipment up to 18 kg costs £18 per item, collapsible wheelchairs go free, but book all these beforehand.

    Check-In Airport service charge for any check-in or bag drop at the airport costs £8 per passenger (£11 if booked via call centre). The only way to avoid this charge is to travel with hand luggage only and check in online. Desks open 2 hours and close 40 minutes before the scheduled departure time.
    Online check-in is available for those with hand luggage only, up to 24 hours before departure. Bmibaby does not operate any connecting flights, you need to check-in and collect your luggage for each part of a journey.
    Flight Changes No refunds for cancellations or missed flights. You could reclaim a refund of Air Passenger Duty but the administration fee of £25 per passenger doesn't make it worth it. Flight changing online costs £30 per person per single flight plus any fare difference. A name change must be done via the Call Centre (0905 8282828, premium rate) and costs £40 per flight plus any fare increase.
    Aircraft Bmibaby uses a total fleet of 14 aircraft: 12 Boeing 737-300 (148 seats) and 2 Boeing 737-500 (131 seats). Bmibaby aircraft carry novel names such as Rock a bye baby, Baby of the north, Baby blue skies, Rainbow baby, Butterfly baby, Little Costa baby, Pudsey baby and Foxy baby.
